Young Clarkston Hunter Is Dead
SEATTLE, Nov. 1 (AP) - Calvin Smathers, 22, Clarkston, died early today at University hospital of wounds suffered in a hunting accident a week ago near Lewiston, Idaho.
The youth was hit in the hand and abdomen by a rifle bullet while hunting elk with his father, John Smathers of Nezperce, Idaho. He was flown here last Thursday night in an Idaho National Guard plane.

Hunt Death "Accidental"
GRANGEVILLE, Idaho, Nov. 17.- At a hearing today into the fatal hunting mishap which claimed the life of Calvin Smathers, 22, Clarkston, Wash., is was decided the death was accidental.
Smathers was shot while elk hunting in the Little Stew creek in the Lochsa country of the Clearwater national forest on October 25, from a rifle in the hands of his father, John Smathers of Nezperce.
His was the fifth hunting fatality in this area this year.
Dr. William Cone, coroner, and Dick Seay, deputy sheriff, conducted the hearing.
